Thoughts from Mia Mercatili......

TODAY IS NATIONAL CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS DAY!!!

Ironically. as I type this, the clock strikes midnight on September 12, 2010. It is officially National Childhood Cancer Awareness Day. I have gotten behind on my blogs exactly because of the aforementioned monster. Princess Emily is losing her battle to cancer. It is impossible to sit back and not take action if you have met her. The outpouring of support is amazing!

Speaking of amazing, 9 years ago today my neighbor, friend, and honorary sister, Miss Mia Mercatili was born. Recalling the day she was born, fear fills me. Her arrival was much awaited, but occured just hours after the 911 tragedy. I was scared for this helpless child that I already loved. So unfair to be born into a broken world. What became of her? Read on to enjoy some of her words!!

"I like helping Cancertacular because every time I look at a picture that Tina puts up of a kid with cancer it makes me sad and I want to do everything I can do for them. Its unfair that we are lucky to have health and those kids have to keep getting doctor appoitments and healthy kids only go once a year. They have to stay in hospital for Birthdays, Christmas, Birthday Parties, Easter and have to sometimes eat special food and not have fun running around outside on a nice day, not being able to bike ride and go to school and play with friends. They have to spend lots of time in the hospital being sick instead. Some kids like Monica, you wouldn't know she is sick yet she is so sweet and kind that I want to help all the Monica's in the world so that one day they can get better and do what I do. I think it is so amazing what Tina does and I love her very much."

I love you too Mia!! I can't wait to see where you life takes you, and am honored to be a part of it!
